Vol. 436 No. 4

Written Answers. - Greenpeace Criticism.

Helen Keogh

Ceist:

50 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the Greenpeace criticism that Cavan, Carlow, Clare, Dublin, Donegal, Kildare, Laois, Louth, Mayo, Meath, Waterford and Wexford County Councils have not prepared plans to deal with toxic and dangerous wastes under the terms of an EC Directive dating from 1978; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Wexford): Four local authorities — Carlow, Kildare, Meath and Wexford County Councils — have not yet completed special waste plans in draft or final form. My Department continues to press these authorities to prepare these plans. The Environmental Protection Agency Act, 1992 already provides for the transfer of hazardous waste planning from local authorities to the Environmental Protection Agency. The proposed Waste Bill will include further provisions on the matter.
