Vol. 436 No. 5

Written Answers. - Competitiveness and Employment Protection Unit.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

51 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the budget which is available to the competitiveness and employment protection unit; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Competitiveness and Employment Protection Unit, which I established at the beginning of August, is intended to provide firms that contact it the full support and advice available under the whole range of State programmes for industry and business. It will co-ordinate and oversee the provision of such assistance to firms in difficulty. The Unit will not be a means of providing subsidies to firms but every other aid and support that can be offered will be provided.

Therefore apart from its administrative costs it has no budget.
