Ceist:231 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Education the reason a person (details supplied) has not been awarded the higher education grant payable to mature students.

City of Limerick Vocational Education Committee, as the relevant vocational education committee, is the body entrusted with the administration of the vocational education committees' scholarships scheme in this case. The case in question has been referred to my Department by the vocational education committee for a decision as to whether a previously completed course is an impediment to an award being made under the 1993 scheme. My Department hopes to convey a decision shortly. I shall keep the Deputy informed.
