Vol. 436 No. 7

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Alan Shatter

Ceist:

230 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in making a decision on the application by a person (details supplied) in Dublin 16 for the provision of a transport scheme grant for his two children; and if the application will be approved and the grant paid.

My Department operates a scheme under which grants may be paid towards the cost of private transport arrangements for children who are attending schools under Church of Ireland management, who live at least three miles from the nearest appropriate school and for whom school transport is not available. The family in question applied for grant-aid under this scheme. In order to qualify, children must live at least three miles from the nearest route of service. As the family in question live 2.1 miles from a public scheduled service, they are not eligible.
