Ceist:267 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Justice when the policy review in relation to prisons will be completed; if this review encompassed the provision of a new prison for Cork; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Prisons' Policy Review.
The policy review is at the drafting stage and I am not yet in position to indicate precisely when it will be completed. In advance of completion of the review I announced before Christmas that 210 additional prison spaces were being provided, including a new women's prison for 60. I expect the location of these places to be announced shortly. In the meantime I should say that it is unlikely that either of them will be located in Cork.
