Ceist:76 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for the Environment the role which local authorities now have with regard to planning and construction of national primary routes.

Section 19 (2) of the Roads Act, 1993 specifies the functions which local authorities will normally carry out on behalf of the National Roads Authority. In addition, the local authorities will continue to be responsible for land acquisition in relation to national roads, and for the preparation of motorway schemes and compulsory purchase orders.
