Vol. 438 No. 5

Written Answers. - Domestic Refuse Collection Charge.

Pat Rabbitte

Ceist:

139 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for the Environment if he is considering obliging local authorities to impose a charge for collection of domestic refuse; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Wexford): The making of charges generally by local authorities, including domestic refuse collection charges, is provided for in the Local Government (Financial Provisions) (No. 2) Act, 1983. Under this Act, a decision as to whether a charge should be made in relation to any particular service provided to householders, and the amount of any such charge, is a matter for decision by the elected members of the local authority. There is no proposal to alter these provisions.
