Written Answers. - Naas (Kildare) General Hospital.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

115 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Health the history of development proposals for Naas General Hospital, Naas, County Kildare from 1985 to date, with particular reference to the completion of the various stages already identified; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The development control plan for Naas General Hospital was received in my Department in December 1986. It was proposed to develop the hospital in four separate phase as follows: (1) psychiatric unit, boiler house and ancillary facilities; (2) accident and emergency department, out-patient department and limited surgical service; (3) full surgical service, including back-up facilities; (4) medical services — coronary care unit.

Construction work on the first phase of the development commenced in early summer 1988 and was completed and commissioned in December 1991 at a total cost of £3.3 million.
