Vol. 438 No. 8

Written Answers. - Market Development Programme.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

20 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the funds he shall be making available to support marketing activities by Irish business under the Structural Funds 1994-1999.

As part of the National Plan 1994-99, which will be supported by the next tranche of EU Structural Funds, it is proposed that the Market Development Programme will receive a total allocation of IR£174 million over the six year period.

This programme will be administered by An Bord Tráchtála and will represent a development of the successful 1989-1993 package of marketing measures, which was supported by the previous tranche of Structural Funds.

The measures of the previous programme have been adapted in order to meet the global marketing challenges of the 1990s. They will continue to assist indigenous companies to improve their marketing capability in foreign markets and also to provide a series of direct grants and incentives to companies for their marketing effort.
