Vol. 438 No. 8

Written Answers. - Treatment Regulations.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

72 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Social Welfare the payments that were made to the legal representative of a person (details supplied) in County Cork under the equality treatment regulations; the payment that was made to this person's solicitor; and the costs that were involved.

The legislative measures providing for equal treatment during the period of delay, from December 1984 to November 1986, in implementing EC Directive 79/7 are contained in the European Communities (Social Welfare) Regulations, 1992 (S.I. No. 152 of 1992).

No payments were made to the legal representative of the person concerned under the provisions of these regulations.

The individual in question was one of a number of plaintiffs who initiated proceedings arising from the delay in implementing the directive. In the absence of implementing measures settlements were made in such cases, which were subject to conditions as to confidentiality.
