Ceist:106 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Health the general hospitals throughout the country that now have geriatric assessment centres; and if he will make a statement on the plans or policies, if any, he has in this area.

The general hospitals which have specialist units for the elderly, including assessment and rehabilitation facilities, are as follows:

It is my intention to ensure that every general hospital will have or have access to a specialist unit for the elderly. Funding is being made available to the Midland Health Board to establish such an assessment and rehabilitation unit at Mullingar General Hospital. Proposals for funding to develop such units in the North-Eastern Health Board area, in South Tipperary, Wexford, Kilkenny and Tralee are being considered by my Department.
