204 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the number of members of the permanent Civil Service who accompanied him on his recent trips abroad; the number, rank and status of those other than the permanent service who travelled; the reason these persons were included; the mode of transport used in each case; the costs involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 174, 202 and 204 together.

In my capacity as Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry, accompanied by my wife, I attended the London Irish Club St. Patrick's Day Ball which took place on Saturday, 12 March 1994.

On 15 March I attended a function at Cheltenham at the invitation of the Racing Board and Bord Fáilte. Both the Secretary of the Department and my Private Secretary were in attendance at this function.
For St. Patrick's Day celebrations I also attended in my capacity as Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the Birmingham Irish welfare and information St. Patrick's Day banquet on Thursday, 17 March and my Private Secretary accompanied me.
Air transport by Aer Lingus was used on each occasion. Neither of the two Ministers of State in my Department travelled abroad for St. Patrick's Day celebrations.
The total number of flights to and from Great Britain was four. This represents all trips abroad by me in the past month up to and including 27 March.
The total cost of these visits was £2,797.39.
