Vol. 440 No. 7

Written Answers. - Transport Expenditure.

Seymour Crawford

Ceist:

241 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the total Government expenditure on rail and bus transport in the past five years.

I assume that the Deputy is referring to the annual Exchequer subvention paid to Coras Iompair Éireann.

The total Government subvention to CIE over the past five years (i.e. 1989-1993) was £545,609,000. The subvention for each year was:—

£000

1989

109,854

1990

111,000

1991

107,469

1992

108,230

1993

109,056

The annual subvention is based on the requirements of CIE as a whole and its allocation in support of particular services in particular areas is a matter for the CIE Group.
