Frances Fitzgerald

Ceist:

272 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Education if the examination to determine the level of shortages of pupil places at primary level in the Ranelagh/Rathgar/Donnybrook area which was undertaken by the primary inspectorate of her Department has been completed in view of the threatened closure of St. Anne's primary school, Milltown, Dublin; and if so, the results of this examination.

Frances Fitzgerald

Ceist:

273 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to accommodate the pupils of St. Anne's primary school, Milltown, Dublin, in the event of the threatened closure of the school proceeding.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

286 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education the steps, if any, she is taking to prevent the closure of St. Anne's primary school, Milltown, Dublin; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 272, 273 and 286 together.

The Trustees of St. Anne's primary school, Milltown, Dublin 6 have taken a decision to close the school from the end of 1994-95 school year. I accept that this is a difficult decision for all parties concerned, however the final decision regarding the closure of the school rests with the patron and trustees.

Steps will be taken to ensure that in the event of closure, pupils will be adequately accommodated in other national schools. The examination of the availability of pupil places in the Ranelagh, Rathmines, Donnybrook areas has been completed by the primary inspectorate recently and will shortly be assessed in the Department. I hope to have the results of the assessment in the near future.
