Vol. 440 No. 7

Written Answers. - Land Registry Maps.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

132 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Justice the number of maps which have not been issued to applicants for which requisitions with appropriate fees have been lodged in the Land Registry; and the length of time the earliest applicant has been waiting for the issue of a Land Registry map.

In my reply to Questions Nos. 120, 129 and 130 on 22 March 1994, I outlined to the House the position with regard to the difficulties arising in the Land Registry as a result of the influx of applications for copy file plan maps because of the area aid schemes.

I am informed by the Registrar of Titles that approximately 17,000 applications for copy file plan maps are awaiting attention at present. Where a file map already exists in the Registry, the application is normally completed in three-five weeks. Where an original map has to be prepared — as happens in about 50 per cent of cases — the application can take ten-12 weeks to complete.
