Vol. 440 No. 7

Written Answers. - Waiting Period for Driving Tests.

Peter Barry

Ceist:

142 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for the Environment the average waiting time for a driving test in Cork city; if he proposes to appoint driving examiners; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The waiting period for a driving test in Cork at present is about six weeks which is the average waiting period for the country as a whole. An earlier test can be arranged for persons who require it for employment, business or other urgent reasons. In these circumstances, I see no need to appoint additional driver testers at present. However, a competition is in progress for the purpose of establishing a panel from which I will be in a position to appoint further driver testers whenever the need arises.
