Vol. 441 No. 1

Written Answers. - Kilcock-Kinnegad By-Pass.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

108 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment whether he has directed the National Roads Authority or the local authorities to cease planning and technical preparations in respect of the Kilcock-Kinnegad by-pass; if funding in respect of these preparations has been withdrawn; if so, the reason therefor; his current preferred options regarding the provision of this by-pass; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have issued no directions to the National Roads Authority under section 41 of the Roads Act, 1993, or to the road authorities concerned under section 15 in relation to the performance of their statutory functions. As provided for in the Act, a copy of any direction given under these provisions must be laid before each House of the Oireachtas.

The funding of the Kilcock-Kinnegad By-Pass and the position regarding planning of the project are matters for the National Roads Authority and the road authorities concerned. I continue to carry out certain quasi-judicial functions in relation to national roads, including the determination of compulsory purchase orders and motorway schemes but no such order or scheme has been submitted to me in relation to this project.
