Vol. 441 No. 1

Written Answers. - Compensation Claims for Hearing Loss.

Michael Bell

Ceist:

112 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Defence the number of claims submitted against his Department for the 8th Infantry Battalion of the FCA regarding alleged damage to the hearing facility of individual members by rank; if so, the dates on which any such claims were lodged; the current position in relation to such claims; the amount of compensation sought; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Ceist:

113 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Defence if a claim has been submitted for compensation by persons (details supplied) in relation to alleged damage to their hearing resulting from range practices; if so, when these claims were submitted; when they are likely to be concluded; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 112 and 113 together.

Two claims were received today in respect of loss of hearing from solicitors acting on behalf of a Commandant and a Company Sergeant serving with the 8th Infantry Battalion of the FCA. The amount of compensation sought was not stated. The Department has no record of any other claims in respect of loss of hearing from members of the 8th Infantry Battalion of the FCA.
