188 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Education if she will extend grants to include mothers working in the home who wish to further their education by distance education as part of the ongoing review of the grants system.
Only full-time courses are currently recognised by my Department for the purposes of the third level student grants system. Given the constraints on Exchequer resources, I have no plans at present to extend the scope of the grants system to include other courses such as distance education courses. I will, however, keep the matter under review.
