Vol. 441 No. 1

Written Answers. - Knocklyon (Dublin) School Places.

Liz O'Donnell

Ceist:

187 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Education the action, if any, she will take to find secondary school places for 15 children who currently have no school places in the Knocklyon area, Dublin 16, for the term starting in September 1994, notwithstanding the ongoing commission which is looking into the feasibility of the proposed Knocklyon post-primary school; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

On 7 April, officials of my Department met with a deputation representing the parents of 13 boys, currently attending Knocklyon senior primary school, who have not yet been placed in a post-primary school for the coming school-year. My officials have undertaken to take the matter up with the authorities of post-primary schools which are convenient to, and accessible from, the Knocklyon area and I am hopeful that the matter can be satisfactorily resolved.

With regard to the independent study currently being carried out on the post-primary needs of the Knocklyon/ Scholarstown area I would refer the Deputy to my reply of 1 March 1994 to Questions Nos. 63 and 197.
