Vol. 441 No. 1

Written Answers. - Stolen Cars.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

79 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice the response of the Garda to the increasing problem of stolen cars being driven at high speed along Oxmanstown Road, Dublin 7, a long residential road with numerous residential side streets, where the residents are concerned that there will be a serious accident; and if there will be more patrolling of this area by the Garda.

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that there have been no recent complaints of speeding involving stolen cars in the Oxmanstown Road area. The area is frequently patrolled by the local gardaí and it also receives attention from the neighbourhood gardaí assigned to the district.

The Garda authorities are satisfied with the level of patrolling in the area, but the situation will, however, be kept under review. In addition the Garda authorities will also be paying attention to the general speed of traffic passing through the area and taking whatever action is considered appropriate.
