Vol. 441 No. 1

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Seán Haughey

Ceist:

80 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Justice the offices under the control of her Department which have been relocated from Dublin under the decentralisation programme since the year 1987; the locations of the new offices; the number of jobs transferred; and the further proposals, if any, she has in this regard.

Following the Government decision of 1 November 1987, on decentralisation, the finance division of the Department of Justice was decentralised from Dublin to new purpose-built premises at Deerpark, Killarney, County Kerry. The transfer was completed in August 1990. There are at present 130 posts in the decentralised office.

Plans are in hand for the decentralisation of part of the operations of the Land Registry to Waterford city. The transfer is scheduled to take place in about two years' time when the new office accommodation being planned at present is expected to be ready for occupation. The various issues to be addressed in the decentralisation process, including the particular operations of the Land Registry and the precise number of personnel to be transferred to Waterford city are under consideration at present. The Government's programme of decentralisation provides for the transfer of 150-200 civil servants to Waterford city.
