Vol. 441 No. 7

Written Answers. - Corporate Donations.

Liz O'Donnell

Ceist:

37 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Finance the number and value of corporate donations that have been granted tax relief in respect of payment made to the Enterprise Trust; the local development initiatives which have been undertaken; their impact; and the amount of tax which has been written off by the State as a result of this scheme.

As regards the first part of the Deputy's question, I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the most recent information available relates to the period from 30 October 1991, the date of incorporation of the Enterprise Trust, to 31 December 1992. During that period the trust received £630,725 in contributions from 76 donors.

As regards the final part of the question, the cost to the Exchequer of the tax relif claimed on these donations is estimated to be in the region of £0.1 million.

Regarding the other part of the Deputy's question, as I do not have responsibility for the operation of the trust or for assessing the impact of its activities on the ground, I am not in a position to answer the question. However, I understand that the relevant sponsoring Department for the trust is the Department of the Taoiseach and on that basis the Deputy should perhaps address the matters raised to the Taoiseach.
