38 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Finance if he has recently received or if his attention has been drawn to a proposal from ACC Bank in regard to the Government's proposal to establish a third banking force; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
I received from ACC Bank in July 1993 a submission setting out the Bank's view on how the State banking sector should develop and my understanding is that their basic approach to this matter remains unchanged. I also received, in October 1993, a submission in the same matter from the ATGWU, representing staff interests in ACC Bank.
Both of these were constructive documents which have been useful in my consideration of how best to give effect to the terms of the Programme for Partnership Government concerning the banking sector.
