Vol. 441 No. 7

Written Answers. - Reorganisation of State Institutions.

Ivan Yates

Ceist:

57 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Finance the progress that has been made in reorganising or developing the Government's three commercial financial institutions, that is ACC, ICC and Trustee Savings Bank; and the Government policy on the future ownership and structure of these banks.

Any major structural changes to the organisation and development of ACC Bank and ICC Bank would be a matter for Government consideration in the context of the options available for giving effect to the commitment in the Programme for a Partnership Government 1993-97, in relation to the banking sector. The future role for Trustee Savings Bank would also be considered by Government at the same time, but I should point out that decisions in relation to that bank are a matter for its trustees.

ACC Bank, ICC Bank and Trustee Savings Bank are three vibrant and profitable organisations, all pursuing lines of development appropriate to their present structure and business. In accordance with the normal relationship between Ministers and bodies under their aegis, I do not intervene in day to day management decisions concerning the operation of these banks.
