Vol. 442 No. 3

Written Answers. - Castletownbere (Cork) Pier.

P. J. Sheehan

Ceist:

142 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for the Marine if he will provide funding to Cork County Council to construct a new pier and landing facilities at the Pontoon Pier, Castletownbere, County Cork to cater for a ferry transport service to and from Bere Island to the mainland.

Arising from correspondence with Cork County Council regarding the condition of the slipway at Pontoon Pier (Lough Beal), near Castletownbere, the Department of the Marine's engineering division carried out an inspection of the facility. The slipway was found to be in a very poor condition and was considered beyond repair. The County Council were so advised and requested last year to draw up designs for a new structure. When these are received the matter will be considered further.
