Ceist:146 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for the Marine the number of EEC, EC and EU directives which have come to his Department since Ireland joined the European Community.

The European Commission's 11th Annual Report on the monitoring of the application of European Community law lists a total of 1,148 directives applicable to Ireland in force at 31 December 1993. It would be difficult to specify how many of these would apply to areas relevant to the Department of the Marine without devoting a disproportionate amount of time and resources to the task.
