Vol. 442 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Donal Carey

Ceist:

198 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for Education if she has received a request from persons (details supplied) in County Clare to have a school bus rerouted in order to facilitate 12 children attending Kilkislen national school, County Clare in the townland of Clonbrick, from Fox's Cross to Kilkislen national school.

My Department has received, and replied to, the request to which the Deputy refers. Regrettably, I am unable to concede to the request since all the children in question are ineligible for free transport to Kilkislen national school. While I would be willing to consider allowing them fare-paying facilities, this is not possible, at present, however, as the current bus service is operating to full capacity. It is not open to my Department to provide additional transport for ineligible children where extra cost to the State would be incurred.
