Vol. 442 No. 5

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Frank Crowley

Ceist:

161 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the reason a person (details supplied) in County Cork has been refused an allocation of suckler cow premium quota from the 1993 special reserve for small scale milk producers.

The person named applied for additional quota from the special reserve for small scale milk producers but he presented only eight eligible cows at inspection. As he had already established a quota of 10 premium rights based on his 1992 payments, he did not qualify for additional quota from this reserve. However, if he can furnish evidence of disposal of a number of cows that he did not present at inspection in July 1993, his application will be reviewed.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

162 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will approve the sale of a suckler cow quota for a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

The application received from the person named to permanently transfer suckler cow premium quota will be processed within the next week.

Theresa Ahearn

Ceist:

163 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when payment of compensation in respect of mulder quota will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Tipperary; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The compensation accepted by the person in question in late February will be paid, with interest calculated up to the date of payment, as soon as possible.

Ivan Yates

Ceist:

164 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the reason a person (details supplied) in County Wexford was not allocated a ewe premium quota; and if this matter will be reconsidered on an appeal basis in view of the fact that both prior to and since the reference year this person has maintained a consistent flock for sheep production.

The EU regulations provide for ewe premium quotas to be based on the number of ewes on which a producer was paid premium in 1991 provided that the producer also applies for premium in 1992.

The person named has no automatic ewe premium quota entitlement because he did not apply for premium in 1992.

He applied for an allocation of quota from the national reserve which was established for distribution to certain categories of producers. However, he does not qualify for reserve quota because he did not apply for ewe premium in 1993 or 1994.

Andrew Boylan

Ceist:

165 Mr. Boylan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry when the balance of a farm improvement grant for a milk tank will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Cavan; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The position is the EC scheme of grants for refrigerated milk tanks is administered by the Irish Co-operative Society (ICOS) through the local dairy co-operatives. £4.0 million has been provided for the current scheme, of which £2.4 million has been paid to date. Arrangements are in hand to pay the balance of £1.6 million to ICOS. ICOS expect that individual milk suppliers will receive the balance of their grants by end May-early June.
