Vol. 443 No. 7

Written Answers. - Remedial Teacher.

Ivan Yates

Ceist:

233 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Education if a primary school (details supplied) in County Wexford will have their case for a remedial teacher reconsidererd in view of the fact that it is the largest school in County Wexford without a remedial teacher.

I recently announced the appointment of 100 additional remedial posts for primary schools, which will bring the total in place to 1,133.

The posts were allocated on the basis of priority of need, following the collection and analysis of data from schools by my Department's primary inspectorate. Unfortunately, the school mentioned by the Deputy was not successful on this occasion.

I will be keeping the question of further need in this area under review as part of a broader commitment to appoint a substantial number of additional teachers in the coming years.

The needs of all schools, including the school mentioned by the Deputy, will be considered in this context.
