Vol. 445 No. 6

Written Answers. - Shankill (Dublin) Coastline.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

280 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Marine if the coastline at Shankill, County Dublin, will qualify for the priority coastal erosion programme of investment which is contained in the National Development Plan, 1993 to 1997; and the plans, if any, he has for the protection of this section of coastline. [408/94]

Under the National Development Plan some £5 million is being made available for coast protection works over the period to 1999. The funding will be used to undertake priority schemes in conjunction with local authorities. The planned investment programme will be designed to preserve economic and public infrastructure and protect local communities.

I am not in a position to advise at this time on the inclusion of individual proposals such as that for Shankill in the programme pending completion of consultations with local authorities on funding and project selection criteria.
