Vol. 445 No. 8

Written Answers. - Olympic Size Swimming Pool.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

32 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education the progress that has been made on the provision of a 50 metre Olympic size swimming pool in Ireland; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1036/94]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Parliamentary Question Numbers 15 and 157 of 17 November, 1993, which stated that the Government had decided not to proceed with the provision of a 50 metre international (Olympic) swimming pool complex and that the provision of a facility to meet the training needs of Irish swimmers and national and limited international competitions was being considered.

In June, 1994 my Department commissioned a feasibility study to examine all the options for the provision of such a 50 metre facility. The results of this feasibility study, which is due to be completed by the end of October, 1994 will be given full consideration by my Department when it is received.
