45 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Education the progress she has made in negotiating an agreed early retirement scheme for teachers; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [571/94]
The three teacher unions have submitted a joint claim to the Teachers' Conciliation Council seeking that teachers be entitled to retire from teaching service on a pension from 50 years of age on the basis of accrued pen sion with ten years enhancement.
In accordance with an agreement reached between all sides on the processing of the claim all outstanding aspects of the claim are currently being examined by a working group of the Teachers' Conciliation Council. As the proceedings of the Teachers' Conciliation Council are confidential it would be in appropriate for me to comment further.
