Vol. 445 No. 8

Written Answers. - Castleknock (Dublin) School.

Austin Currie

Ceist:

81 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Education the current position in relation to the new second level school at Castleknock, Dublin 15; whether she expects the school to be open in September 1995; and if enrolment will be open to children from all primary schools covered by the Bannon report. [1070/94]

It is understood from the County Dublin Vocational Education Committee that negotitions on the purchase of a suitable site for the proposed new Community College in Castleknock are at an advanced stage. Architectural planning of phase I of the new school has been completed by the vocational education committees design team and tenders have been received recently. Pending an examination of the tenders and the acquisition of the site it is not possible to indicate when construction of the new building will start.

It is my own and the vocational education committees intention that the new school will open in September 1995. I understand that the vocational education committee are now actually in the process of setting up a board of management for the new school.
Enrolment policy would be primarily a matter for the school management authorities to decide. I can assure the Deputy however that primary school pupils from within the study area will be adequately catered for in the new school.
