Vol. 445 No. 9

Written Answers. - Fanad (Donegal) Water Supply Scheme.

Patrick D. Harte

Ceist:

174 Mr. Harte asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received a preliminary report from the Donegal County Council on the need to augment the Fanad water supply scheme which is required to provide an additional supply of water to the Fanad area so as to will improve the pressure in areas of low pressure and provide tourism-related developments in the Portsalon area and allow for the extension of the supply to Kerrykeel and Glenvar for which a preliminary report was prepared by the Council and submitted to the Department for his approval; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that this is the first step in making a new water rights proposal to take additional water from Shannagh Lough which would solve the requirements of Fanad East; when the preliminary report was received in his Department; if he has received completed forms required for European Investment Bank funding; if so, the date on which these were received; when he proposed to sanction the schemes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1575/94]

The preliminary report for this scheme was received in my Department in November 1993 and the completed financial forms were submitted in January 1994.

The question of funding for this scheme, and for water and sewerage services projects generally, has been considered in the context of the resources available under the National Development Plan. The high level of existing commitments and the demands of schemes already prioritised for investment account for all finance available to the water services programme at present. It is not, therefore, possible to provide funding for this scheme at this stage. This position will, however, be regularly reviewed during the period of the National Development Plan.
