Vol. 445 No. 9

Written Answers. - Cattle Importation Procedures.

Avril Doyle

Ceist:

212 Mrs. Doyle asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the procedures required to import cattle from the North of Ireland to the South: and the procedures for commercial and pedigree cattle and for animals under six months old. [1617/94]

Because of the incidence of BSE in the United Kingdom, EU legislation prohibits the importation of cattle from the United Kingdom with the exception of (i) calves under six months of age which must be slaughtered before they reach six months and (ii) cattle born outside the United Kingdom and subsequently imported into that country after 1 January 1991.
