Vol. 445 No. 9

Written Answers. - Cavan-Monaghan Speech Therapy Service.

Rory O'Hanlon

Ceist:

234 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to provide special care for children suffering from speech and language disorder in Monaghan Town; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1637/94]

Seymour Crawford

Ceist:

252 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Education when the Department's inspector will report on when a special language class will be set up in the Cavan-Monaghan area. [1568/94]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 234 and 252 together.

My Department recently received the relevant reports on the children proposed for enrolment in a special class for speech and language disorders in the Cavan-Monaghan area.

These reports are being examined at present with a view to deciding on the need for a special class for the children in question. My Department has also been in touch with the relevant health authorities to confirm the availability of a speech therapy service in the event of the class in question being established.
I will inform the Deputies as soon as a decision is made.
