Vol. 445 No. 9

Written Answers. - Lucan (Dublin) Educational Facilities.

Austin Currie

Ceist:

237 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Education the arrangements, if any, that have been made for the education of children in new houses at The Oaks and Huntingdon Glen, Ballyowen Lane, Lucan, County Dublin; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1377/94]

At primary level, children from the areas in question can be catered for in Archbishop Ryan national school, Balgaddy. My Department has recently approved the provision of extra accommodation for this school.

At post-primary level, there are three post-primary schools in Lucan and two post-primary schools in North Clondalkin, all within a reasonable distance of the areas mentioned by the Deputy. It would be a matter for parents to make an application on behalf of their children to any of these schools.

My Department is at present assessing the needs, at primary and post-primary level, of the Lucan, North Clondalkin and adjoining areas to determine short and long term requirements in the light of recent housing developments and other demographic indicators.
