Vol. 449 No. 1

Written Answers. - Arts Grants.

Albert Reynolds

Ceist:

97 Mr. Reynolds asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht when the outstanding balance of his Department's grant for a theatre for Longford will be paid in full; and if he will make a substantial payment on account. [3074/95]

Grants allocated by my Department under the Operational Programme for Tourism 1994-1999 are subject to certain conditions.

These grants are usually paid following completion of the agreed works and fulfilment of any specified conditions.

In certain cases, however, interim payments may be made to a project promoter but only when a claim is submitted accompanied by an itemised schedule of expenditure, copies of professional certificates and copy invoices.

In the case of the theatre for Longford, interim payments amounting to £300,000 have been made and I am hopeful that a further payment can be issued shortly.

The final grant will be paid on completion of the project and on receipt of confirmation of compliance with the conditions pertaining to the overall grant by the project promoters. My Department is presently engaged in discussions with the project promoters to this end.
