Vol. 449 No. 6

Written Answers. - Funding from Cultural Relations Committee.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

31 Mr. Ring asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will furnish a list of applicants who were successful in obtaining financial assistance from the Cultural Relations Committee; the reason a group (details supplied) in County Mayo were not successful in view of the fact that they have applied on a number of previous occasions; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Information on funding provided in 1995 on the recommendation of the Cultural Relations Committee will be available at the end of this year, and I shall arrange for the Deputy to receive at that time a list of organisations and individuals whose applications for funding were successful.

The Deputy will appreciate that it would be most invidious if details of the committee's discussions when deciding on its recommendations were to be disclosed. The committee is a voluntary advisory body whose members possess a considerable knowledge of this country's artistic and cultural life. When assessing the merits of requests for assistance in promoting Irish cultural events abroad, they give the same careful consideration to all applications submitted.I have no doubt that they will have done so in the case of the group the Deputy referred to.
