55 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Finance if his Department will expedite the payment of compensation to a person (details supplied) in County Leitrim in view of the result of acquisition of land for the Ballinamore/Ballyconnell canal system. [4180/95]
A preliminary claim has been received from the landowner in question on foot of the acquisition by the Commissioners of Public Works of land acquired in connection with the Ballinamore-Ballyconnell Canal restoration project.
In addition to the land that has been acquired from the claimant, a further area of his holding may be subject to periodic water logging as a result of the raising of St. John's lake. A survey is being carried out to determine the area affected. When this is to hand the claim will be dealt with.
I can assure the Deputy that all claims are processed as quickly as possible to ensure that inconvenience to affected landowners is kept to the minimum.
