Ceist:

85 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Defence the numbers of FCA and Slua Muirí officers commissioned, by Corps and Command, each year from 1984 to date; the date and location of the commissioning ceremony; whether any potential officers who have successfully completed their courses still await the award of their commission; if so, the numbers, corps and units involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter.[4207/95]

The information requested is set out in the following schedule. All personnel who successfully completed potential officers' courses have been appointed to commissioned rank.

86 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Defence in respect of FCA and Slua Muirí command formation appointments, the establishment of appointments by command or service; the numbers currently vacant by command; the date of the longest vacancy; when it is proposed to fill such vacancies; and if he will make a statement on the matter. There are 11 appointments at command level which may be filled by FCA officers. The Eastern, Southern and Western Commands each has three appointments while the Curragh Command has two. Ten of the appointments are filled at present and only one vacancy exists.

87 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Defence as at 31 December 1994, the number of cases in which he is a defendant in respect of proceedings initiated at Circuit or higher court level in respect of FCA and Slua Muirí which remain to be determined; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The number of compensation claims initiated against my Department on behalf of members or former members of the FCA and Slua Muirí and which remained to be determined as at 31 December 1994 was 46.

88 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Defence the rates of initial and annual uniform allowances paid to officers of FCA and Slua Muirí; the nature and quantum of clothing issued at Exchequer expenses initially and annually to such officers; the number of officers serving in the Defence Forces at 31 December 1992, 1993 and 1994; and the amounts of initial and annual allowances paid in each year 1992, 1993 and 1994. A person who has been, or who is about to be, appointed an officer of the Reserve Defence Force and assigned to the Reserve of Officers, An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil, or to the Reserve of Officers, An Slua Muirí, is issued with clothing, at public expense, in accordance with the scales set out in Statements "A" and "B".
The number of officers serving in the Defence Forces on 31 December in each of the years 1992, 1993 and 1994 was as follows:
