Vol. 450 No. 1

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 1, 10 and 11.

In view of the British Prime Minister's statement yesterday on sterling's likely non-participation in the European Monetary Union will the Government indicate if it thinks it proper to draw up a comprehensive examination of the effect this will have on monetary union, the Irish punt and exports to Britain?

The matter raised by the Deputy is clearly not one for the Order of Business and it must be dealt with in a more appropriate fashion.

We will put down the appropriate questions but it will be four weeks before they are answered. Will the Tánaiste consider this matter?

For the third morning in a row may I ask the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he has received the consultants' report on the future of Sunbeam——

For the third morning in a row the Deputy is completely out of order. Deputy Quill may not persist in flouting the rules of this House in such a blatant fashion.

Yesterday, Sir, you said you would assist me and I submitted a Private Notice Question.

The Deputy will resume her seat forthwith or leave the House.

Will the Tánaiste take the opportunity later in the day to make a statement to the House on the very serious Border incursion by the RUC and the British Army yesterday?

That does not arise now Deputy.

Will the Tánaiste take the opportunity to protest and make a serious complaint about this incursion?

Does the Government expect to bring legislation before the House during this session to provide for holding a referendum on divorce?

That legislation is in the course of preparation and we hope to have it before the House as soon as possible.

In view of the very serious situation that exists and the threatened closure of the Sunbeam factory——

I thought the Deputy wished to raise an appropriate matter.

This is a very serious situation.

Yes indeed and should be dealt with in a serious vein.

Will the Minister make a statement instead of smiling?

Yesterday I questioned the Minister for Finance about the Washington Conference but he had very little information on it. If my information is correct only 16 of the 400 American companies that have invested in this country are in the Border counties and will he raise this point on the agenda?

The Deputy is out of order.

Is it the Government's intention to introduce legislation on the third banking force in this session?

It is unlikely that we will have the legislation during this session.

In view of the recent concern expressed by Amnesty International, when is it proposed to reintroduce the Refugee Bill?

I understand that Bill will be taken up by the committee when it is established.

Ba mhaith liom, maidir le reachtaíocht atá geallta. fiafraí den Tánaiste cén uair atá sé i gceist an reachtaíocht maidir leis na páirceanna náisiúnta agus na ceantair oidhreachta a thabhairt isteach. An bhfuil sé sásta nach ndeanfar faic faoi na ceantair seo go dtí go dtabharfar isteach an reachtaíocht seo?

Níl sé sin in ord anois.

Ar an liosta reachtaíochta atá geallta, is é uimhir a sé reachtaíocht na páirceanna náisiúnta agus ceantair oidhhreachta. Bheinn buíoch dá bhféadfadh an Tánaiste freagra a thabhairt ar an gceist sin mar gur reachtaíocht é atá geallta.

Tuigim go bhfuil sé á scrúdú faoi láthair.

Ó tharla go bhfuil reachtaíocht geallta anseo, agus ó tharla go bhfuileadar ag gníomhú ar aghaidh ar an reachtaíocht, an bhfuil an Tánaiste sásta nach ndéanfar faic níos mó faoi na ceantair seo go dtí go mbeidh an reachhtaíocht seo faoi bhráid na Dála?

Cuir ceist síos ar an ábhar sin, a Theachta.

Will the Government make copies of the Framework Document available to the general public?

That is not relevant not.

It is very relevant. Are there no plans?

What is the position of the Bill on the transfer of sentenced persons?

We hope to have that Bill before the Oireachtas in the current session.

In view of the ongoing tragedy in south Galway, what is the reason for the delay in bringing forward the proposed Bill amending the arterial drainage Acts?

I am not aware of any delay in bringing forward the Bill. It is in the course of preparation.

It will come in the summer.

The Government is complacent about this problem.

(Limerick East): It has been there for seven years. The Deputy never saw water in Galway for seven years?

What is the Minister for Health doing to restore the Taoiseach to full health?

When is it proposed to bring forward the investment intermediaries Bill to protect small investors in the insurance market?

That Bill will be before the House in this session.
