Vol. 450 No. 6

Written Answers. - Community Employment Development Programme.

Derek McDowell

Ceist:

157 Mr. D. McDowell asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if his attention has been drawn to the result of a questionnaire survey of participants and supervisors in CEDP/CE schemes in Dublin's inner city carried out by the Dublin Inner City Partnership; if his attention has further been drawn to any other evaluations of the community employment scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5361/95]

I had the pleasure last month of launching the report of the Dublin Inner City Partnership on the operation of the community employment development programme in the inner city. The findings of the survey, which by and large were positive towards the programme, will be taken into account by FÁS in the ongoing evolution and development of the programme.

There has not been any formal evaluation of the community employment programme which has only been in operation since April of last year. It is, however, kept under ongoing review by my Department and FÁS and I would hope, in association with FÁS, to have a first detailed evaluation of the programme undertaken later this year.

Opportunities for an average of 38,500 participants will be provided on the programme throughout 1995 involving projected expenditure of £255.75 million approximately.
