Vol. 450 No. 7

Written Answers. - Admission to a Second Level College.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

66 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education her views on the concern of the parents of a pupil (details supplied) in Dublin 7 that the terms of Circular M51/93 are being ignored and that their son is allegedly being discriminated against by a post-primary school (details supplied) which is located only yards from their home; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5678/95]

Ceist:

67 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education arising from her reply to Parliamentary Question No. 147 of 24 January 1995, if the investigation of a possible breach of Circular M51/93 has been completed; and if so, the outcome of that investigation. [5679/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 66 and 67 together.

As I indicated in my reply to Question No. 147 of 24 January 1995, a preliminary investigation of the matter suggests that there are grounds for believing that there may be a breach of the terms of Circular M51/93 on the part of the post-primary school referred to.

In accordance with the provisions of the circular, the monitoring committee for the sector considered the case with a view to resolving the difficulty in consultation with the school trustees. This process has not yet been completed and further meetings with the school authorities are due to take place shortly.
