Tony Killeen

Ceist:

100 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the number of available seats on transatlantic services; and the number of passengers in each of the years 1988 to 1994. [5711/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 99 and 100 together. I have no function in this matter. Operating schedules, route services and such matters are the day to day responsibility of the airlines concerned and my Department has no responsibility for maintaining the form of statistics sought by the Deputy.

Figures made available to me by Bord Fáilte indicate that the total number of passenger movements on transatlantic routes between 1988 and 1994 were as follows: 1988, 635,000; 1989, 660,000; 1990, 660,000; 1991, 564,000; 1992, 667,000; 1993, 694,000; 1994, 804,000.

Aer Rianta have further advised me that, on the basis of information available to date, total capacity for 1995 on transatlantic routes will be in excess of 1,000,000 seats.
