Vol. 451 No. 6

Written Answers. - State Organisation Staff Contracts.

Batt O'Keeffe

Ceist:

29 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Finance his views on whether confidential contracts in State organisations with staff members might impinge on the role of the Comptroller and Auditor General. [6145/95]

In the case of the various State organisations whose accounts are audited by the Comptroller and Auditor General, the auditors would, in accordance with section 10 of the Comptroller and Auditor General (Amendment) Act, 1993, have access to all necessary documents and information. This would extend to staff contracts and there would not, therefore, be any question of interference in that respect with the role of the Comptroller and Auditor General. Obviously, the issue does not arise in the case of State organisations in respect of which the Comptroller and Auditor General has no role, such as in the case of commercial State bodies included in the Second Schedule to the 1993 Act.
