Vol. 451 No. 7

Written Answers. - Medical Charges.

Donal Moynihan

Ceist:

59 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for Health when an independent assessor will be appointed to produce a list of charges for medical and surgical procedures carried out by consultants in Irish hospitals. [7003/95]

Limerick East): Draft regulations have been issued to interested parties pursuant to the Health Insurance Act, 1994, which Act provided for the appointment of an assessor in respect of the regulations on the proposed minimum benefit system. I intend to appoint an assessor in respect of the minimum benefits regulations by early autumn. The assessor's role will include the monitoring of the minimum benefits schedules on an on-going basis to take account of inflation, advances in medical technology etc.
