Vol. 451 No. 8

Written Answers. - Public Liability Insurance Premia.

Rory O'Hanlon

Ceist:

213 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Justice the cost to the Exchequer and State agencies of public liability insurance premia and claims paid from the Exchequer for the last year for which figures are available; the plans, if any she has to reduce this cost; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7391/95]

My Department, in line with the practice in other Government Departments, does not incur any costs in respect of the payment of public liability insurance premia. With regard to the question of claims made against my Department, I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 149 of 31 January 1995 — Official Report Vol. 448 Cols. 687 to 690 — where details of claims for negligence and nuisance against my Department are set out.

The question of finding ways of reducing the costs of claims paid from the Exchequer is under examination at present.
