Ceist:

141 Mr. N. Dempsey asked the Minister for the Environment the total receipts for motor taxation for each local authority for each of the years from 1990 to 1994; and the administration costs to the local authority of collecting these amounts. [8594/95]

Details of the amount of motor tax, i.e. vehicle excise duties, collected by each licensing authority for the years 1990 to 1992 are contained in the reply to Question No. 71 of 2 February 1994. For 1993, the information is given in the reply to Question No. 101 of 19 October 1994, and for 1994, the information is contained in the reply to Questions Nos. 41, 70, 84 and 86 of 27 April 1995.

The cost incurred by licensing authorities in the administration of the motor taxation system are recouped in full to each authority by my Department. Details of the costs recouped in respect of the years 1990 to 1993, the latest date for which audited figures are available, are set out in the following table.
